We are excited to announce that the University Institute of Architecture will be hosting a two-week Winter School titled “Decoding Building Energy Consumption and Thermal Comfort in Public Plazas: Unravelling the Urban Morphology of Chandigarh, Sector 17, Public Plaza,” scheduled from December 28, 2024, to January 7, 2025. We warmly invite your esteemed institution to encourage students, scholars, and faculty members to participate in this exceptional educational program.
Project Overview:
Chandigarh, renowned for its modernist urban planning and architectural significance, exemplifies innovative design and sustainable living. However, as climatic conditions evolve, it becomes increasingly critical to understand building energy consumption and thermal comfort within public spaces. This Winter School will provide participants with an in-depth exploration of the Sector 17 Public Plaza's urban morphology, focusing on energy dynamics, thermal comfort, and urban design within the context of a changing climate.
Program Highlights:
- Insightful Lectures and Discussions: Learn from esteemed faculty members and field experts who will offer in-depth theoretical insights into Chandigarh’s history, urban planning, and architectural significance, especially as they relate to public spaces.
- Onsite Visits to Sector 17 Public Plaza: Gain first-hand experience through guided tours of Chandigarh’s public plaza, allowing participants to observe and analyze urban design elements that influence thermal comfort and energy efficiency.
- Hands-on Workshops and Energy Simulations: Participate in interactive workshops that emphasize practical learning. Utilize energy simulation tools to analyze thermal impacts and explore passive design strategies that enhance thermal comfort in public spaces.

Faculty / Students/ Researchers/ Professionals in the field of Architecture/ Civil / Sustainable Development and Allied Domains.

· Duration: Two Weeks
· Fees:
o USD 250 for International Participants (inclusive of meals and accommodations)
o INR 10,000 for National Participants (inclusive of meals and accommodations)
